Visa and Residency Permit Requirements for Students

 **Note: We attempt to keep this information up to date, but it is not a substitute for contacting the embassy. It is the student’s responsibility to check the most updated information regarding the visa requirements for CyberMACS countries. ** We do not guarantee that the information here is current.**

First-year in KHAS

Visa Procedures: For the first year of studies, international students might need a student visa to perform their studies in Turkey. Students who will come to study in Turkey must obtain a student visa from the nearest Turkish Republic Consulate. Student visa procedures can take time, and therefore it is important that you apply for a student visa as soon as you receive your admission letter. You can learn the Republic of Turkey visa regime applied to your country of citizenship from the Republic of Turkey Ministry of Foreign Affairs website. http://www.mfa.gov.tr/visa-information-for-foreigners.en.mfa You have the opportunity to apply for a visa on the Internet. For this procedure, you can visit https://www.konsolosluk.gov.tr/.

Residence permit procedures: Having arrived in Turkey and after completing your university registration, the most important thing you need to do is to apply for a residence permit. After you fill out the application form at https://e-ikamet.goc.gov.tr/, you should go to the Provincial Directorate of Migration Management on the day and hour of the appointment or deliver to paperwork from your university’s international student office. You will be able to carry out all formal transactions as long as you stay in Turkey with your residence card and foreign identification (YU) number you receive after your application. If your residence card does not expire, it can be used while entering or leaving Turkey, and thus you do not need to get a new visa. It is important that you renew your residence permit before the validity period expires. You are exempt from the residence application fee as a student, and you are only required to pay the card fee. Please check the link for further information about the residence permit: https://international.khas.edu.tr/visa-and-resident-permit/ On this website, you can find video answers to questions that students can ask about Turkey. https://www.studyinturkey.gov.tr/StudyinTurkey/AllQues?kId=387

Second year in Germany or North Macedonia:

Students who are nationals of a non-Schengen country must obtain a student visa before leaving their country of origin to study in CyberMACS partner countries when they are performing their mobility requirements in Germany and North Macedonia. Despite the Schengen zone and general harmonisation of regulations regarding movement within the European Union, most visa issues are addressed by the country being travelled to. There are no single regulations and requirements. Once you are admitted to the CyberMACS programme, you should start the procedures to obtain the necessary visa in your home country in the embassy/consulate of the respective country (Turkey, Germany, or North Macedonia). You will receive the required admission letters from the CyberMACS European Administrative Coordinator:
  • Official admission letter signed by the coordinator stating in which university you will start
  • A copy of your insurance contract
  • In case additional documents are needed, they can be provided by the CyberMACS, Administrative Coordinator. There will be additional documents that you will need to get the visa, based on the country you will be studying in, including, but not limited to, the Visa application, photo identification, valid passport, travel tickets, and a criminal background check from the country of origin.
Non-European nationals who are holders of a residence permit and/or long-stay visa of a Schengen area country can travel to another Schengen area country for three months per six-month period. However, you must be able to:
  • justify the purpose of your stay;
  • have sufficient financial resources for your stay and return;
  • not be considered a threat to public policy, public security, or public health.
Note that to move from one Schengen area country to another for more than three months requires a residence permit and/or long-term visa for that country (keep this in mind when you look for an internship and agree on its duration). Below are the links you can use for visa: Germany
